insurance Texas auto
Reader’s Question:
Hi. Im 15 years old and I only have a learner’s permit. Can I get an insurance?
Rico
Thank you for asking Rico.
Adding a teenage driver to the policy on their parents can be very expensive, but it’s much cheaper than getting a separate auto insurance policy. You may speak with the insurance provider of your parents about your plan of being added on the policy if you want to be insured by your parent’s insurance carrier.
If you want to get your own policy it may be possible with just a permit but some insurance providers will require a fully licensed driver before you can apply for an insurance with them. In addition to that, since you are still a minor, you will need a parent or guardian to sign the insurance legal documents/contract with you.
Most insurance companies would require you to upgrade your learner’s permit by getting a full license within a short period of time after the start of your car insurance policy as well if you are trying to take out the policy on your own.
Goodluck!
