car Texas insurance
Reader’s Question:
I have a driver’s license in Alberta but Im gonna start working in Texas and I have a speeding ticket in Texas, will this affect my rates in Canada?
Faye
Thank you for asking Faye.
It will actually depend on if your insurer in Canada will see this ticket in Texas on your driving record or if this ticket will affect your insurance rates with them. Im not sure if Texas will notify your insurance company about the speeding ticket or if the violation will be placed on your Canada driver record.
The Alberta Reciprocal Enforcement of Judgments Act lists all other Canadian provinces and territories as well as Australia, and the following States in the US – Washington, Idaho and Montana. This agreement may or may not extend to driving violations in these locations.
I would suggest that you check with the Minister of Alberta Infrastructure and Transportation to get more information if Alberta has a reciprocal agreement with the state of Texas, and other states, regarding traffic violations. If there are agreements you may ask if the offense will be placed on your driving record or if it will affect your insurance rate in Alberta.
Goodluck!
